Custom Fields Add-on

This add-on provides a number of new shortcodes allowing you to include data from custom fields for posts, pages, and custom post types, created using Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) and custom user profile fields, created using ACF, WordPress, custom code, or another plugin, in both the subject and message body of your notifications. It also allows you to set one or multiple custom fields that will ‘trigger’ the notification. Both the latest versions of the Free and Pro ACF plugin are supported.

The custom field types that you can currently use in your post, page, and custom post type notifications are:

  • Text
  • Textarea
  • Number
  • Email
  • Password
  • WYSIWYG Editor
  • Image
  • File
  • Select
  • Checkbox
  • Radio Button
  • True / False
  • Taxonomy
  • Page Link
  • Color Picker
  • oEmbed

You can also include data from custom user profile fields (user meta data), providing that it’s created using WordPress standards, either via ACF, WordPress, custom code, or another plugin. These can be used in any notification that allows you to use the user shortcodes that BNFW provides except for the registration notifications.

Example

You’d like to update Editors when a custom textarea field called ‘Post Notes’ is updated, and you’d like to include the contents of that custom field along with the post title, content, and any information stored in other custom fields in that post in a notification. With this add-on, that’s easy.

Please Note: Currently, data is retrieved and displayed in the form that it is stored in the database. E.g. Dates are displayed in YYYYMMDD format, files are outputted as IDs and not full URLs, etc.

Support for other custom field plugins will come soon. If there is a particular plugin that you use that you’d like to see this add-on include support for, please get in touch.
